Pope Francis Hospitalized with Bronchitis

Pope Francis spent a quiet night at Gemelli Hospital in Rome due to bronchitis. He is undergoing treatment and will be monitored closely for further updates.

Pope Francis has spent a quiet first night and has slept well at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he is receiving treatment for a respiratory infection. This was confirmed by the Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, who reported that this morning the pontiff read some newspapers and had an adequate breakfast.

Medical tests and treatment for Pope Francis continue at the hospital, as Bruni explained to reporters in the Vatican press room. An update on his health status was expected after 5:00 PM local time.

It is still unknown whether the pope will be able to hold the Angelus prayer from the hospital this Sunday, as it will depend on his progress in the coming hours. Francis, 88 years old, was hospitalized due to bronchitis that affected his ability to read speeches and ultimately required diagnostic tests and hospital treatment.

The Vatican indicated that the analysis revealed a respiratory infection and that the pontiff's clinical conditions were moderate, showing a slight fever. The Vatican spokesman assured that the pope was calm, in good spirits, and reading newspapers.

Due to his health condition, Pope Francis has canceled several audiences and commitments until next Monday. This is the fourth hospitalization of the pontiff at Gemelli, having experienced respiratory issues in the past that also required hospitalization.
