Pope Francis, currently hospitalized at Gemelli for 31 days due to respiratory problems, expressed his gratitude this Sunday to the faithful for their prayers and for accompanying him in this difficult moment. In front of about three hundred people, mostly children, who gathered outside the hospital carrying balloons, drawings, and letters for him, the Argentine pontiff conveyed his gratitude for the display of affection and closeness.
After 72 hours without an official medical report, the Vatican issued a statement informing that Pope Francis remains stable and showing improvements in his health. Although he continues to receive high-flow oxygen therapy, the need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night has gradually decreased. Despite these improvements, it is expected that the Holy Father will remain hospitalized for an indefinite period, receiving treatment and physical therapy for his recovery.
In his written message, Pope Francis asked for prayers for peace in various countries affected by armed conflicts, as well as for the Church in its process of discernment and decision-making following the recent Synodal Assembly. It was also reported that the Pope approved a schedule of meetings that will lead to an assembly of bishops and laity in the Vatican in October 2028 to consolidate the ‘Synod on Synodality.’
In his statement, the Pope thanked for the attention and love received from so many people, especially from children. He highlighted the importance of solidarity and mutual support in difficult times and emphasized the light and hope that shines in hospitals and assistance centers amid adversities.
