Pope Francis expresses concern over return of war

Pope Francis on Friday noted that 'war has returned as if it were the fashion of the age,' considering that 'military enthusiasm is beginning to spread' and that 'what is particularly concerning on the international level is the weakness of multipolarity.' The Pope said during his annual meeting with diplomats accredited to the Holy See to exchange New Year's greetings that 'diplomacy that promotes dialogue and seeks consensus among all is being gradually replaced by the diplomacy of force, either by individuals or by groups of allies.' He added: 'The principle that was established after the Second World War, which forbade states from using force to violate the borders of others, has been broken.'
