Vatican City, Feb 1 (EFE).- Pope Leo XIV stated that civilian victims in armed actions «openly violate morality and law» and called for an end to «this intolerable injustice» during his appeal at the end of the Sunday Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square. «Today, Italy marks the 'National Day in Memory of Civilian Victims of Wars and Conflicts Around the World'. This initiative is regrettably timely: civilian victims in armed actions are recorded every day, openly violating morality and law,» the Pope said, addressing thousands of people from his study in the papal palace. He added: «The dead and wounded of yesterday and today will be truly honored when this intolerable injustice is brought to an end.» During his Sunday appeals, the American pontiff also shared his prayers «for the numerous victims of the landslide at a mine in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo». He also prayed «for the deceased and for those suffering from the storms that have hit Portugal and southern Italy in recent days», without forgetting «the population of Mozambique, seriously affected by floods», which have caused hundreds of thousands of displaced persons since October, according to the UN.
