Pope Leon XIV Plans Visit to Algeria and Monaco

Pope Leon XIV expressed his hope to travel to Algeria to visit the places of Saint Augustine's life and to continue the dialogue between the Christian and Muslim worlds. Meanwhile, the Holy See confirmed that the Pope is studying a 'lightning visit' to Monaco at the end of March. This trip could be the first papal visit to the principality in history. It is expected to be a one-day visit, similar to Pope Francis's trip to Corsica in December 2024. After trips to Turkey and Lebanon in November-December 2025, Monaco could be the pontiff's second international trip since his election on May 8. The principality, located in southeastern France, is the second smallest country in the world after the Vatican. Catholicism is the state religion. Monaco has a population of 39,000 in an area of 2 km², three-quarters of whom are foreigners attracted by the Mediterranean climate and tax advantages.
